Reverend Joseph M. McLafferty
Fr. Joseph McLafferty was born in the Inwood section of Manhattan on May 17, 1969.
He grew up in Harriman in Orange County, NY attending St. Anastasia Church there.
A student of public schools, he graduated Monroe-Woodbury High School and entered the
St. John Neumann Residence, a residence for men discerning a vocation to the priesthood.
While living there in the Bronx, he attended Iona College. He graduated Iona in 1991 and
continued on to the seminary to study theology. After studying in Rome for one year, he
returned to study at St. Joseph’s, Dunwoodie, Yonkers for the next two years. Fr. Joe,
unsure of his vocation, left the seminary before ordination and worked for a few years at
St. Francis de Sales Church in Manhattan. In 1998 he returned to St. Joseph’s Seminary to
finish his studies for the priesthood. He was ordained on May 20, 2000 by the then
Archbishop-Elect Egan (he has just been announced as the new archbishop upon the death
of Cardinal O’Connor on May 3, 2000). His assignments have been: parochial vicar at
St. Patrick Church, Yorktown Heights from 2000-2004 and then at Our Lady Star of the Sea,
Huguenot, here on Staten Island from 2004-2008. On September 1, 2008 he was appointed
the pastor at St. Christopher, Grant City. With the changes brought on by the upcoming
“Making All Things New” Pastoral Plan, he was appointed administrator of both
St. Christopher and St. Margaret Mary, Midland Beach from 2014 until August 1, 2015
when he was named pastor of the newly-formed parish of St. Christopher – St. Margaret Mary.
Fr. Joe’s parents live in Red Hook, New York. He also has two older brothers (twins)
and two nieces and two nephews.
Fr. Gabriel Mendy
Father Gabriel Mendy joined our St. Christopher and St. Margaret Mary family in
September, 2017. Born in The Gambia, West Africa, Fr. Gabriel is a Catholic priest of the
Congregation of the Holy Spirit Fathers and Brothers (Spiritans). He was ordained on 15th
November, 1997 and was sent on mission to Sierra Leone. In 2004, he began his theological
studies in Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, USA.
During and after his studies, he was a summer assistant in Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish
here in Staten Island, New York until last year. Since 2011 he was appointed lecturer in
Spiritan International School of Theology, Enugu, Nigeria and in 2012, he became the
Vice Rector of this Catholic Seminary. He is assigned this year to The Church of
St. Christopher and St. Margaret Mary for his sabbatical.

Fr. John DeLora
Fr. John DeLora has been the Director of Pastoral Care at Staten Island University Hospital
since 2001. Born on the Lower East Side (from Most Holy Redeemer Parish) he entered the
seminary at the age of 34 after working at Cabrini Medical Center, Manhattan. He graduated
with a Master of Divinity degree and a Master of Arts degree (specialized in history) from
St. Joseph Seminary, Yonkers. He was ordained on May 14, 1994 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral
and served at St. Raymond Parish, the Bronx, and Holy Name of Jesus, New Rochelle, before
coming to Staten Island to serve at the hospital. He has been at St. Christopher’s since the
Summer of 2011.
Fr. John A. Boehning
Fr. John A. Boehning joined St. Christopher in 2012 after retiring from active ministry. He
served as an assistant at Holy Family Parish, the Bronx (1962-1976), St. Patrick, Staten Island
(1976-1980), St. Joseph, Manhattan, E. 87th Street (1980-1982). He became pastor in 1982,
and served at St. Anastasia Church, Harriman, New York until 1994. In 1994 he was assigned
as pastor to St. Thomas More, Manhattan from 1994 – 2012. Born in the Bronx, Fr. Boehning
was ordained on June 2, 1962.
